Benjamin H. Purcell (1928-2013) was a lieutenant colonel and POW during the Vietnam War and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Anne Grant Purcell is a civic and church leader from Clarksville, Georgia. Their papers document Mrs. Purcell's efforts to earn the release of Col. Purcell following his capture by the Viet Cong, the Purcells' work to share their experiences, Col. Purcell's tenure as a state representative, and his work on behalf of veterans of the Vietnam War. The papers include correspondence, speeches and remarks, book manuscripts and promotional material, campaign and political files, clippings, posters, and photographs.

The collection consists of records of the Athens (Ga.) Klan #5 of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) from 1921-1930. The records include correspondence, newsletters, minutes, quarterly reports, membership cards, dues records, recommendation cards, receipts, and forms for robe requisitions relating to the activities of the Athens KKK #5. The correspondence (1921-1929) contains letters to the Klan asking for financial assistance, thank-yous for assistance rendered, as well as official correspondence, some from national KKK headquarters on membership standings, meetings, induction ceremonies, and recruitment. The correspondence also discusses Georgia politics, especially the 1926 gubernatorial election. The minutes (1925-1926) document Klan meetings and contain information on dues paid, elections, social events or official ceremonies, help for the needy, and investigations of new or current members.

Titles of works compiled or copied by Howell include: American Indian Legends by students of the United States Indian School, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, prepared in the History Department under the direction of Mrs. Mary Yarnall Henderson; Indian Legends by students, Carlisle Indian School, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, from the collection of school newspapers at the Herman Bosler Public Library, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Titles composed by Howell include: The Comanche Centaurs and Quanah Parker(The Prairie Centaurs, Part I); The Jacksboro Trials of Satanta and Big Tree(The Prairie Centaurs, Part II); Kicking Bird Prince of the Kiowas. The collection consists of records of the Dozier Land Company (Athens, Ga.) and its predecessors, the American Land Company (Athens, Ga.) and the National Land Company (Augusta, Ga.), from 1905-1920 and contains mostly correspondence relating to residential real estate development in Augusta and Athens, Georgia including Oconee Place. Correspondents include Thomas H. Dozier, James Howard Dozier, W.B. Dozier, Olin A. Dozier, Athens Mutual Insurance Company. Correspondence discusses segregated homes for African Americans. Discussion of breeding Hereford cattle and concerns of fever ticks. Of interest is correspondence relating to the hiring of balloon ascensionists as a publicity gimmick.
