The materials in this collection have been gathered by Alvan S. Arnall, son of Governor Ellis G. Arnall. Ellis Gibbs Arnall was Attorney General of Georgia from 1939 to 1941 and was governor of Georgia from 1943 to 1947. The majority of this collection includes research materials used for Arnall's biography, The Politics of Change in Georgia: A Political Biography of Ellis Arnall, written by Harold Paulk Henderson. Files include correspondence, clippings, programs, speeches, research materials, resolutions, and bills. Materials are a mix of original documents and photocopies. Other papers in this collection document portions of Arnall's legal career and his campaigns.

The collection consists of one document of agreement dated December 2, 1774 between John Morel, Robert Watts, and Edward Telfair concerning the cutting and delivery of a live oak intended for building a ship. The agreement is signed by George Walton, who, in 1774, was engaged in a prosperous law practice in Savannah, Georgia.

The collection consists of a bill of sale from Savannah, Georgia for the purchase of an enslaved woman, Ellen, and her child, Caroline, and an agreement made between Ellen and Angus McQueen. The bill of sale shows that Jackson Hodges paid $3,700 dollars to Samuel Hauser. The bill of sale also notes that Ellen has a burn.

The collection consists of one contract (copy) between the Board of School Trustees of Boiling Spring, Allegheny [sic] County, West Virginia and J. N. Arnott to teach school for five months at a salary of $30.00 per month. Terms, length of school day and record keeping are spelled out. Fines are to be levied if reports are not in on time. Mr. Arnott was also responsible for making the fires and sweeping the floors of the school house, or causing these chores to be done.
