Ledger entries (1831-1837) include the customer's name, item purchased, and price pertaining to sales of food, household goods, furniture, and lumber. Additional entries relate to the hire of slaves for work, IOUs for cash or materials, Carter's practice of using peddlers to sell watches, persons receiving meal, and grist mill business.

The collection consists of an account book for a livery stable owned by John McLendon of Thomasville, Georgia from 1861-1864. Entries contain the customer's name, type of service rendered (feed sold, horse or horse and vehicle stabled, horse or horse and vehicle hired), cost, dates of service, and date account paid. The book contains a few entries for 1862, 1863, and 1864, but most of these entries are for payment of the 1861 accounts. Ledger includes a name index.
