Abstract Or Scope:

This collection consists of a group of various colonial, state and municipal legal documents from the 1600s-1900s, copied by the Historical Records Survey of Georgia in 1941 as part of the Works Progress Administration. The documents focus on Georgia state and colonial laws as municipal government in various parts of the state. There is also a listing of some vital statistics which consist of a list of books, not the actual vital statistic.

The collection consists of depositions of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello in a lawsuit against Universal Pictures Company, Inc., and Realart Pictures, Inc., over profits from reissues of Abbott-Costello movies and movie shorts. Depositions take place in United States District Court, Southern District of New York, on April 30, 1952, May 2, 1952, and May 5, 1952. Abbott and Costello are represented by Jack Lewis Kraus, and Louis Nizer represents Universal Pictures Co., Inc.

The collection consists of papers of Sir Joseph D. Hooker from 1828-1909. His wife, Lady Hyacinth Hooker evidently removed letters from her husband's files and created a collection of letters, photographs, and autographs of their contemporaries. Addressed mainly to Hooker, the letters are from members of the Linnaen Society and the Royal Society of Arts, botanists, natural historians, statesmen and politicians, artists and literary figures, royalty, and European and American notables. The correspondence relates to Hooker's work at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, botany in general, and the Hooker's social activities.

The collection consists of records of the Chicopee Manufacturing Company (Athens, Ga.) and its predecessor, the Athens Manufacturing Company, from 1824-1975. Includes correspondence, financial condition reports (1936-1953), legal papers (1824-1975), photographs, account ledger (1910-1914), and two minute books (1835-1935) which document the management and activities of a cotton manufacturing plant.

John Harold Hawkins was born May 22, 1892, in Forsyth County, Georgia, the son of Perry C. Hawkins and Della Bramblett Hawkins. He was admitted to the Bar in 1916 and served as official court reporter of the Blue Ridge Circuit. Hawkins was nominated Associate Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court in the Democratic primary held September 8, 1948. The papers of Judge Hawkins include correspondence and printed materials related to his 1948 campaign, a small number of administrative and case files maintained by legal assistant Harold Glore, personal correspondence, clippings and photographs.

The Correspondence consists of correspondence of Olin Downes from approximately 1909-1955. Correspondence is professional in nature and contains both incoming letters to Downes and copies of his outgoing letters documenting Downes' career as a music critic and lecturer as well as his involvement with such organizations as the Berlioz Society, the Bohemian Club (N.Y.), the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, Columbia Artists Management, Metropolitan Opera Company, National Council of American-Soviet Friendship, National Council for the Arts, Sciences, and Professions, the New York Times, Rachmaninoff Fund, and the World's Fair of 1939. Major correspondents include Richard Aldrich, Ernest Bloch, Alec Hammerslough, Charles Hubbard, Serge Koussevitsky, Stuart Montgomery, Kenneth Murray, Walter Naumburg, and Henry A. Wallace.
