This collection consists of genealogy and family research beginning with Crawford Taylor Burgess and his descendants. The papers are primarily genealogical research, correspondence, and photographs of the family gathered together by Blondine Burgess Abbott and Patsy Burgess Webb.

Biographical / historical:

Crawford Taylor Burgess (1848-1938), son of Washington Jackson Burgess and Delilah Lacy Burgess, enlisted in Company B, 5th Georgia Militia in 1864. After the war, he attended Rock College, a subsidized school for disabled Confederate veterans, located at the University of Georgia. Upon completing his education, he taught for a number of years. In 1883, Burgess was ordained a minister at Hudson River Baptist Church and preached the gospel for over fifty years. Burgess' first marriage to Margaret J. Bridges (1846-1881) produced three children and his second marriage to Winnie Mathis produced ten children.
