Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of petitions of the Athens Historical Society, the Society for the Preservation of Old Athens, and concerned citizens, to prevent the commercial zoning of Milledge Avenue from Broad Street north to Reese Street. Several hundred names are signed to theCitizens Signature Petition Offered printed in The Banner-Herald, Athens, Georgia, mimeographed petition sheets and letters, all protesting the re-zoning of "one of the South's best architectural assets."
