A survey plat, dated 10 July 1832, and grant, dated 18 December 1840 and signed by Governor Charles J. McDonald, which represents the tract of land drawn by Henry Potts, Sr., of Riden District, Jackson County, in the Cherokee land lottery and which is situated in the Seventeenth District of the Third Section of Cherokee County.

Beginning in 1832, Cherokee territory in present-day Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding, and Union counties entered into the lottery system and was dispersed to thousands of Georgia families. A separate lottery was held in 1832 to distribute forty-acre "gold districts" for $10 each in the same Cherokee area.
