Scope and content:

A photocopy of single $1,000 share certificate for the Confederate Steamship Rattlesnake, dated November 17, 1862, made out to F. A. Brake and signed by T. Harrison Baker.

Biographical / historical:

Formally the C.S.S. Nashville, the Confederate ship was converted into a privateer and renamed the Rattlesnake. At the battle for Fort McAllister in Richmond Hill, GA, the ship was attacked by the U.S.S. Montauk in Feburary 1863, during which the Rattlesnake ran aground and eventually caught fire and sunk.
