The collection consists of correspondences (primarily Photostats and facsimiles), testimonials, newspaper articles, memorials, and photographs regarding Crawford W. Long's discovery of ether anesthesia. Two original letters included in the collection, between Long and Thomas R. R. Cobb, regard the death of Long's daughter.

Crawford Long (1815-1878) was a north Georgia Physician credited with the discovery of anesthesia.
