The collection consists of one letter written on Botanic Garden, Cambridge, Mass. letterhead: dated September 19, "Dear Miss Harker" (?), signed "A. Gray," regarding a plant. The letter was found laid in A Manual of the Botany of the Northern United States by Asa Gray; the book is located in the Hargrett Rare Book collection, Rare Bk QK117.G78.

Asa Gray (1810-1888) was an American botanist who extensively studied North American flora.
