This collection includes church registers from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Athens, Georgia. The registers include parishioners, baptisms, conformations, communicants, marriages, and deaths with a number of enslaved people named. Some of the registers list cause of death and location of burial.

Biographical / historical:

Emmanuel Episcopal Church was organized in 1842 and received into the Diocese as a parish in 1843. Originally located at the corner of Clayton and Lumpkin Streets a new chapel opened on Prince Avenue in 1892.
