Background

Scope and content:

This collection includes ephemera gathered at Athens PRIDE such as stickers, pins, informational pamphlets, flags, bracelets, and a copy of the Athens Queer Map.

Biographical / historical:

Evolving from a 1998 potluck picnic at Lake Herrick organized by and for a group of LGBTQ+ Athenians and University of Georgia faculty and staff, Athens PRIDE Committee became a 501(c)(3) in 2013 and began expanding the original picnic into a much larger community event in 2011. From that time, the organization hosted Athens PRIDE week and festival which included public outreach events and the downtown PRIDE parade. In 2022, Athens PRIDE merged with Athens Queer Collective to form the Athens PRIDE and Queer Collective, which now also organizes community programs like support groups, raises funds for gender affirming care, and hosts events throughout the year in partnership with other local organizations.
