This collection contains family photographs, correspondence between Ann Ruth White and Rufus F. Payne, family history, artifacts and ephemera.

Biographical / historical:

Rufus Payne graduated Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine (1933) and John Hopkins School of Public Health (1939). Dr. Payne served as superintendent fo the Georgia State Tuberculosis Hospital and later worked at the Battery State Tuberculosis Hospital and finally Talmadge Hospital. He met his wife Ruth White in Virginia where she worked as a nurse supervisor in the operating room. The couple had three children: Patricia Payne-White, Peter Payne, and Penny Payne Hughes.
