Scope and content:

This collection consists of a ledger documenting laborers employed by the 1st Division Quartermasters, compiled by Captain Keating Simons, Jr., serving as Acting Commissary General of Subsistence. The ledger records names, occupations, compensation, and pay. The broadside includes entries for Federal prisoners who had taken the oath (George Holland, John Smith, James Redmond, and Dominick Kelly) and for freedmen identified as Richmond, Zachariah, Ezekiel, and James. Enslaved individuals are also recorded, with their names, occupations, and enslavers noted. These include Julius, a cattle driver (enslaved by E.C. Keckerly); Daniel, a butcher (D.H. Silcox); George, a cooper (K.L. Simons); Paul, a cattle boy (Mrs. Gadsden); Joe, a laborer (Mrs. Mays); Aaron, a laborer (Joshua Ward); Dock, a laborer (Mrs. McPherson); Ben, a butcher (J.W. Harrison); Robert, a butcher (W.L. Webb); and Porter, a laborer (J.A. Enslow).
