This collection contains several different types of ledgers from the Republic Mining and Manufacturing Company, some are from associated company shops, departments, and a geological survey note book. Also included are general store ledgers and doctor's record books from Dr. William C. Nixon. There are also samples of company scrip from the Ridge Valley Iron Company from the 1870s.

The Watters District is a voting district in Floyd County, Georgia, named after Joseph Watters, a pioneer settler. It includes the community of Shannon, formerly called Ridge Valley and Hermitage. Ridge Valley Iron Company and Republic Mining and Manufacturing had operations in the area.
Dr. William C. Nixon (1850-1898) was a physician who practiced in Nannie, Floyd County, Georgia in the late 19th century. Doctor Nixon married Emma Pinson (1854-1929) and had four children, Robert, William T., Maggie, and Fariss Nixon.
