The collection consists of five items pertaining to Stephen Vincent Benet: a broadside containing a prayer by Benet, which begins "God of the free," undated; collage containing a photograph of Benet, undated; letter to Benet from Brandt & Brandt regarding permission Benet gave to Mrs. Georgia Marshall Cragin to write a musical composition for Benet's poem O Lordy Jesus, dated December 29, 1939; a copy of the completed project (i.e., O Lordy Jesus! sheet music, with words by Stephen Vincent Benet and music by G. Marshall Cragin); and a copy of a speech written by Benet for a November 20th celebration, Council For Democracy – Committee of Correspondence, circa 1940.

Biographical / historical:

Stephen Vincent Benet (1898-1943), grandson of General Stephen Vincent Benet (1827-1895), was an American writer, born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
