This collection contains a book of clippings from Mexican newspapers regarding Echegaray's plays performed at the Teatro Principal in Guanajuato, Mexico and directed by Enrique Guasp during the late 1870s. The clippings are in Spanish.

Biographical / historical:

Jose Echegaray (1832-1916) was a Spanish dramatist and winner the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904. Trained as an engineer, he taught and served in public office as well as creating a revival of Spanish dramatic theater in the late 19th and early 20th Century.

Enrique Guasp was the director of several Echegaray productions performed at the Teatro Principal in Guanajuato, Mexico in the late 1870s.
