Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains historic photographs and writings, class group photographs, and agricultural photographs of cattle and land judging as well as 4-H activities. Also included are printed material regarding agricultural subjects. Two group photographs of the reunion of the University of Georgia's class of 1897 are included.

Biographical / historical:

Mahlon M. Richardson (1841-1918) was a lawyer, married Hester Ann McMullen (1844-1930) and lived in Hartwell, Georgia. They raised three sons: John G. Richardson (1874-1946), who married Martha Opal Condor (1880-1975), Arthur S. Richardson (1876-1932), who married Lucile Matheson (1898-1980), and Fred H. Richardson (1879-1970), who married Opal Elder. John and Arthur were both University of Georgia graduates (1897) and both practiced law in Hartwell. Fred was a graduate of Georgia Tech and worked in the textile industry. John's son Joel C. Richardson (1903-1990), who married Marian McMichael (1908-1998), was a teacher, County Agent, and worked with the Argicultural Extension Service. Their children were Nan and Claire.
