The collection consists of letters written in German by Hans Korff, a set of stamps, envelopes, and a poster. The letters were sent by Korff to his family while he was held as a prisoner of war in France during the First World War. The stamps in the collection are mounted to show the hyperinflation in the Weimar Republic in the early 1920s. The envelopes contained correspondence between Korff while he was living in Mexico and his family back in Germany. The envelopes mailed post-WWII show British and American censor marks. The poster displays a quote by Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, a German nationalist who was seen as an ideological forebear to Nazism.

Hans Korff was a native German and soldier in World War I who was held for a time as a prisoner of war in France. After the war, he moved to Mexico where he lived with his wife, Lisa Korff. While in Mexico, he continued to correspond with friends and family in Germany.
