Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of one letter written by William J. A. Bradford in Davenport, Iowa, to Hugh Anderson Haralson, a representative in the Georgia General Assembly. Bradford communicates his desire to have a commission in the military service to participate in operation of the army in Mexico. He requests Haralson's aid in hopes of being brought to President James K. Polk's attention. Haralson appends a note to President Polk forwarding the request, but states that he does not know Bradford well enough to recommend him.
