The collection consists of one photograph, dating from 1863, depicting William Force Claytong and his friend Dan Lee during their service as midshipmen in the Confederate Navy.

Biographical / historical:

William Force Clayton was born August 17, 1843 in Athens, Georgia to Phillip Clayton and Leonora Harper. At the outbreak of the Civil War he entered the Confederate Navy as a midshipman and served for four years. Clayton passed away in 1918.
