The collection consists of seven photographs focusing on the Southern United States, mostly depicting rural African-American life in the 1870s. Four of the images are stereopticon cards, two are cabinet cards, and one is a 1935 print of African-American labor organizer Angelo Herndon in prison. Also included are portraits of men, women and children from the Southeastern United States and Germany.
