The collection consists primarily of correspondence, writings, genealogical materials, estate records, and photographs documenting the life of Marjorie Browne Strother. Correspondence from Marjorie to her mother (1909-1921), written in Paris, Newport News, Newport, and China, describes her travels and provides insight into her experiences as a young wife and mother. Correspondence from Marjorie to her granddaughter, Sandra Strother Hudson (1960s-1970s), concerns Strother's experiences as a student at Hollins College and her time living in New York. Photographs depict Marjorie Browne; Edmund Weyman Strother; Nina and Rhodes Browne; Charles Almon Hunt; Sandra Strother Hudson; and snapshots taken in China during the 1920s.

Marjorie Browne was born to Nina Young and Rhodes Browne in Kentucky. She grew up in Columbus, Georgia, and attended Lucy Cobb Institute. In 1914, she married Weyman Strother and they had one child, Weyman, Jr. The couple divorced in 1925 and she married Colonel Charles Almon Hunt.
