Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of contracts, agreements, financial papers, invoices, artifacts, and printed material. Some of the contracts are signed by the artists, but most are unsigned photocopies. There are some detailed food and drink requirements listed in the contracts for each artist. Of special interest are the artifacts related to various performers including Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, The Clash, and The Beatles.

Biographical / historical:

Peter Conlon is an entertainment promoter, and began Southern Promotions in 1980, and joined with music industry veteran, Alex Cooley, in 1982. Their company was purchased by SFX, Inc. late in 1997. The Atlanta (Ga.) based entertainment company promotes music and sporting events, and books acts to perform at various venues, mainly in the South. The company also produced the Chastain Park Summer Concert Series in Atlanta.
