The collection consists of one letter dated January 6, 1899, addressed to Mary Dorothy Lyndon in Athens, Georgia, from Mary Day Lanier in Greenwich, Connecticut. Lanier wrote that she received many requests for writings, photographs or autographs of her husband (Sidney Lanier), and had gotten behind in her correspondence because of illness. Lanier also mentions Mary's mother, Aunt Fanny and Cosby.

Biographical / historical:

Mary Day Lanier (d. 1931) was a poet and the wife of poet Sidney Lanier (1841-1881). They were both born in Macon, Georgia and married in 1867.
