The collection consists of correspondence, receipts, promissory notes and legal documents of James H. Carter from 1853-1861, and 1889. Several letters are from various law firms who are collecting debts for Carter. In a letter dated December 26, 1860, Savannah, James H. Carter is introduced as "Druggist of this city who is on his way to Texas."
