Scope and content:

The collection consists of personal and medical papers including receipts for groceries, utilities, animal food, automobile and investments. The family letters are from children, and the medical materials include correspondence about patients, prescriptions, x-rays, materials about the Telfair Hospital, the Georgia Infirmary, the Sanitary Commission and opium stamps.

Biographical / historical:

Craig Barrow (1876-1945) was raised in Athens, Georgia, and attended the University of Georgia, medical school at the University of Maryland, and post graduate studies at Breslau in Germany. He was the chief surgeon of the Central of Georgia Railway and married Elfrida DeRenne (1884-1970) in 1906. She was a descendant of Noble Jones, owner of Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, Georgia. The Barrows lived at the residence on Wormsloe Plantation, but also owned a summer home in Hendersonville, North Carolina called Yonholme. Elfrida DeRenne Barrow was the author of several books about the history of Savannah.
