Alexander Hamilton Stephens (1812-1883) was a lawyer and a politician born in Wilkes County, Georgia. He served as a United States congressman (both before and after the Civil War), vice president of the Confederate States of America (1861-1865), and Governor of Georgia (1882-1883).
