The collection consists of correspondence of the Brown and McNeill families of Roberson County, North Carolina from 1859-1866. John A. Brown (1800-1835) and Margaret McNeill (1801-1851) had four children Elinor Jane, Milton James, Timothy Dwight, and Euphemia Anne. The letters document the lives of Milton James Brown (1833-1864), Euphemia Anne (Annie) Brown (1843-1918), George Washington Stone married to Annie, Elinor (Ellen) Jane Hamilton, Susan (Sue) Jane Donahoo wife of Milton, Maggie daughter of Milton and Sue, George C. NcNeill a cousin, and Blanch (Bonnie) McNeill a cousin.
