Scope and content:

The collection consists of F. Phinizy Calhoun's (disbound) notebook of University of Georgia's Permanent Committee on Memorials papers, from 1930-1933. The majority of the collection is correspondence from committee members soliciting help from relatives of individuals honored, and concern this subject, especially regarding the donation or commissioning of portraits. There are also letters from committee members to Dr. Calhoun regarding various business matters. The collection also includes two copies of Georgia Alumni Record, lists, and a report.

Biographical / historical:

The University of Georgia Permanent Committee on Memorials was formed in 1931 for the purpose of establishing memorials to past Presidents and Chancellors as well as outstanding faculty members and alumni of the University. Committee members included Dr. Phinizy Calhoun, Sr., Judge William H. Barrett, Dr. Craig Barrow, John W. Grant, Harold Hirsch, Dr. Ulrich Phillips, Dr. John W. Wade.
