The collection consists of two letters from Captain A. B. Cree in Savannah, Georgia to his wife Mattie in Iowa City, Iowa on February 24 and May 16, 1865. The letters, written while Cree was stationed in Savannah with the 22nd Iowa Infantry Regiment, discuss family news, describe his impressions of the city, and his opinions of Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee.
