Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of PTA reports, announcements and clippings regarding Childs Street School in Athens, Georgia during the 1950s. Included are four issues of the school newspaper, Childs St. Bulletin (later title Childs Street News).

Biographical / historical:

After the Childs Street School burned down, the school district decided to sell the property rather than rebuild the structure. St. Joseph's parish council president Fechtel was able to secure two buildings, one was the former Childs Street School cafeteria (which became the Saint Joseph's parish hall), and a second building was made available to the Model Cities Head Start program.
