Scope and content:

The collection consists of records of the Southern Forest Institute from 1939-1946 and 1961-1979. The collection includes records of the Southern Forest Disease and Insect Council, the Southern Forest Research Council, the Southern Pine Beetle Action Council, the Hardwood Forestry Research Fellowship, and photographs from the Pulpwood Conservation Association. These records document the problems of disease and insects facing Southern forests, research undertaken to combat the problems, and publicity material used to educate the public.

Biographical / historical:

The Southern Forest Institute (SFI) is an educational and public relations organization for the pulp and paper industry. Sponsored by over 30 companies throughout the Southeast, the SFI is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Arrangement:

Organized into five series: (1) Southern Forest Disease and Insect Research Council, (2) Southern Forest Research Council, (3) Southern Pine Beetle Action Council, (4) Hardwood Forestry Research Fellowship, and (5) Southern Pulpwood Conservation Association photographs.

Though the collection is open for research, the audiovisual recordings do not have reference copies; however, reference copies are available upon request. Audiovisual research requests are dependent upon the format and condition of the recordings.
