Scope and content:

The collection consists of records of the Georgia Psychological Association from 1946-1975. The records include correspondence, constitutions, minutes (1948-1972), treasurer's reports (1948-1970), membership applications, member lists, committee reports (1948-1971, with gaps), and printed material. The materials document the formation of the organization and its subsequent activities including information on the licensing of psychologists in Georgia, legislation before the General Assembly, mental health problems, and ethics and standards for mental health professionals.

Biographical / historical:

The Georgia Psychological Association was founded in 1946. As of 2011, It continues to operate. The GPA represents psychology in the State of Georgia and is recognized at the national level for its activism and breadth of activity. It sponsors a variety of Continuing Education workshops culminating in the Spring Annual Meeting and publishing the "Georgia Psychologist."
