Boxes 1-7 contain only correspondence, much of which is personal or family-related. Letters to each of his children from Judge Lumpkin are found in this collection, while business-related correspondence is concentrated in the Judge E.K. Lumpkin Papers (MS 80). Box 8 contains various materials including receipts, clippings and printed material.

Edwin King Lumpkin (1858-1938), partner in the Athens, Georgia law firm of Lumpkin & Burnett, married Mary B. Thomas. One of their sons, Edwin K. Lumpkin, Jr. practiced law with his father.
Lumpkin (1853-1938) attended the University of Georgia and received a civil-engineering degree in 1871. In 1878 he married Mary B. Thomas and passed the bar in 1879.
Lumpkin resided in Athens and was the father of three sons and two daughters. His title of judge was merely a courtesy, but he played an influential role in Georgia judicial history.
His wife Mary helped found the first garden club in Georgia in 1891.
