The collection consists of papers of Frances Long Taylor and the Long family from 1866-1946. The papers are comprised mostly of correspondence (1866-1946) between Emma M. Long, Francis Long Taylor, and Edward C. Long discussing family matters. The collection also contains a bound volume of handwritten copies of correspondence by and about their father Crawford W. Long and his medical career and discovery of ether as an anesthetic, transcribed by his daughter Florence Long Bartow in 1915; a scrapbook of clippings, postcards, and photographs of an 1903 European trip by Francis Long Taylor and Emma M. Long; and some legal documents and misc. material.
