The collection consists of correspondence, primarily from B. H. Broomhead, Macon, to "Bel," 1861-1863. Correspondence regards business matters, including shafting and mines. Also included are three notes written to Septima Smith (undated). Notes regard tomatoes and recipes.

Biographical / historical:

Joseph Belknap Smith was a businessman and mine owner who owned land in the Berzelia and Little River Mills area of Wilkes and Columbia Counties (Georgia).
