The collection consists of one letter written on Alabama Polytechnic Institute, A. & M. College, Auburn, Alabama letterhead: dated October 26, 1898, to "Mr. Charles E. Jones," signed "James H. Lane," regarding Lane's participation in the Battle of Chancellorsville, and the role of Stonewall Jackson in the battle.

Biographical / historical:

James Henry Lane (1833-1907), a Virginian by birth and education, received his commission as brigadier general in the Army of Northern Virginia in 1862. After the war he taught at several institutions, most particularly the Alabama Polytechnic Institute from 1882-1907.
