The collection consists of one arithmetic and copy book. The earliest entry is by Joel Echols, with some entries by John, James, Elijah, William J., Sebron F. Eckles. (Elijah may be the same as Joel.)

Biographical / historical:

"Dr. Elijah Eckles (originally spelled this way) ... was born July 15, 1777. He served in the War of 1812 as a private in Capt. Barnwell Pope's Company of Infantry, second Georgia Militia, from October 12, 1814 to March 17, 1815. On June 15, 1828 he married Miss Martha Carrith of Madison County. He died March 10, 1865."--Presentation note in book.
