Scope and content:

The collection consists of papers of E.A. Cutts pertaining to his cotton brokerage in Savannah, Georgia from 1886-1914. The collection includes account books, bills, cash books, records of cotton sales, cotton weights and prices, claims, receipts, and letter books. The letter books detail Cutts' business transactions as well as some personal correspondence and correspondence concerning the Knights Templar (a masonic order).

Also contained in the collection are account books, bills, receipts, and letter books of Butler, Stevens & Company, a Savannah cotton factor. The materials document the firm's cotton business and the establishment of an Exporting Dept. in 1886 for naval stores and pine lumber. The company dealt with firms in the United States, South America, and Spain.
