Scope and content:

The collection consists of one account book for the Athens Banner from 1872-1874 and 1877-1880. Entries give the date, subscriber's name, post office, dates account paid, and in some cases, date service stopped.

Biographical / historical:

The Athens Banner, an Athens, Georgia newspaper, was established after the Civil War as the result of a merger between the Southern Banner and the Southern Watchman. It became the Athens Banner-Herald in 1921.
