This collection documents the Georgia Sierra Club's development and growth throughout the state and includes the activities of several chapter subgroups including the Columbus, Atlanta, Coastal, Ocmulgee and Savannah River Groups. The papers include correspondence, committee meeting minutes and reports, lobbying and legislative files, newsletters, and publicity files.

The Georgia Chapter of the Sierra Club participates in conservation campaigns to protect the environment and wilderness areas in the state and throughout the nation. It lobbied for the creation of the Cumberland Island National Seashore and supported the protection of the Ocmulgee corridor. The volunteer organization helped to pass the Solid Waste Management Act of 1990 and has worked on numerous clean water initiatives.
