Biographical / historical:

University of Georgia records reveal that the mapmaker Henry "H.P." Cowan of Hawkinsville, Georgia matriculated at the university in 1877. Little is known about Cowan, but he is connected with an infamous Georgia incident through his wife Lillie Woolfolk Cowan. She was the daughter of Captain Richard F. Woolfolk who was killed, along with his second wife Mattie E. Howard and six children, in the Woolfolk axe murders of 1887.
