Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of a variety of materials dating from the early 1990s to 2014. GLOBES materials include advertisements for Family and friends, correspondence, mixed media, photographs, posters and banners plus ephemera such as beads and ribbons. Boxes 8-12 are from Annette Hatton's collection and include materials that document the history of GLOBES. There are also numerous documents tracing that struggle for Domestic Partner Benefits at UGA along with assorted t-shirts from sponsored events.

Biographical / historical:

GLOBES (Gay, Lesbian or Bisexual Employees and Supporters) is a diverse organization of faculty, staff, graduate students and administrators whose mission is to advocate for, develop and nurture UGA's LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) communities. According to their website the organization "strives to educate, to improve campus climate, and to foster progressive change as we visibly work for social justice, equity and LGBTQ rights at UGA and beyond."
