The Georgia Experiment Station was founded in 1888 as a result of the federal Hatch Act of 1887 which established a national network of agricultural experiment stations. Early research at the Station focused on fertilizers and soil erosion but eventually a complete program of agricultural and environmental science research developed. Today research centers on: crop and pest management, food safety and quality, environment and natural resources, urban agriculture and applied plant genetics.

The collection is arranged into 12 series: Redding correspondence, Starnes correspondence, Stuckey correspondence, Bledsoe correspondence, Stacy correspondence, Woodroof correspondence, Smith, Georgia Experiment Station, Georgia Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, glass negatives, printer blocks, deeds/land acquisition.
