This collection is comprised of information on the formation of the Teaching Academy and one book "Chalk Talk" edited by one of its members.

Biographical / historical:

Under the auspices of the Institute of Higher Education, the University of Georgia Teaching Academy was established by 13 charter members on October 27, 1999, as a forum to discuss, celebrate and promote teaching excellence. This program is part of the Teaching Academy Campus Program initiated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Association for Higher Education. The Carnegie Foundation is leading a national effort to affirm teaching as significant intellectual, scholarly work and to advance models of teaching that foster deep and lasting understanding by students. The mission of the Academy is to promote and celebrate excellence in teaching and to foster learning through inquiry.
