Background

Biographical / historical:

John Thomas Morgan was born on August 19, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and died on May 26, 2020 in Annapolis, Maryland at the age of 91 following a brief illness. Morgan was a senior government relations officer with the Communication Workers of America (CWA) from 1969 to 1998. CWA is an American union representing workers in telecommunications and information technology as well as other related industries such as news media, broadcast and cable television, and the airline industry. During his time with CWA, Morgan established and served as Executive Director of the Joseph Anthony Beirne Foundation, which provides scholarships for the families of union members.

Before working at CWA, Morgan was Executive Director of the Democratic Study Group in the U.S. House of Representatives, and served in the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Morgan had a lifelong interest in Democratic politics as well as civil rights, co-founding Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children in Montgomery County, Maryland and volunteering for Montgomery Housing Partnership.
