Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of correspondence, legislative files, and campaign materials from Henry Hugh Logan's time as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and County Commissioner for Athens-Clarke County.

Biographical / historical:

Henry Hugh Logan (1923-2005) was born in Athens, Georgia, and founded the Normal Hardware Company. Logan was elected to the Clarke County Board of Commissioners in 1958 and served twelve terms as a commissioner, including seven as chairman. He went on to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1970-1986, and was a member of the Georgia Water Quality Control Board. Following an unsuccessful bid for re-election to the House in 1986, Logan was again elected to the Clarke County Commission in 1990, but did not take office since voters in the same election authorized a new unified Athens-Clarke County government. Logan subsequently ran for the position of Fifth District Commissioner for the unified government and served three four-year terms. As a member of the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government, Logan focused on effective and efficient services being provided by the new consolidated government and on improvements to the countyĆs bridges and roads infrastructure.
