The Dewey Hayes Papers consists of professional papers from Hayes's legal career as a lawyer and Solicitor General. Included are professional correspondence, legal documents, hand-written notes, and trial transcripts. Also included are files related to Hayes's political activities. Of particular note are the papers related to the trials State of Georgia vs. Issac Sims Jr. and Millard C. Farmer vs. Noah J. Strickland.

The Dewey N. Hayes, Sr. Papers document his career as a Solicitor General and lawyer serving the following Georgia counties: Bacon, Brantley, Charlton, Coffee, Pierce, and Ware. Amongst the collection documents such legal cases as Isaac Sims, Jr. v. RP. Balkcom, Jr. (Warden Georgia State Prison) and State of Georgia vs. Isaac Sims, Jr. re: Rape and Robbery, Millard C. Farmer v. Noaoh J. Strickland as well as more routine cases dealing with real estate, drug charges, divorce and child custody. Also documented, although to a lesser degree, are Hayes' political activities, including supporting Lauren "Bubba" McDonald for Governor, Jim Pannell for Lt. Governor, and serving on Tommy Irwin's campaign committee. The Papers consists of correspondence, hand-written notes, legal documents,and trial transcripts and documentation.
