The collection consists of correspondence of Alexander Hamilton Stephens, two are antebellum letters written while Stephens was a U. S. Congressman representing Georgia's 7th District. The first letter was written from Washington, February 10, 1850, requesting a copy of The Daily Globe be sent to a constituent. The second letter asks a "Dr. Lee" in Washington to perform editing services for an agricultural report. The eight postwar letters are written as a private citizen in Milledgeville and Crawfordville.

The collection consists of the papers of Anna Maria Green Cook and the Green and Cook families from 1845-1934. The papers include bills and receipts of Samuel Austin Cook, a diary of Anna Maria, but mostly correspondence. The diary (1861-1867) entries discuss social life in Georgia during and after the Civil War, politics, the progress of the war, and Union troops in and around Milledgeville (Ga.). The correspondence consists of letters between Anna Maria and Samuel Austin Cook both before and after their marriage; letters to Anna Maria from her father Thomas F. Green, her children Callie Cook and Ansel Cook, and from her nephew Gerald Cook. The correspondence discusses news of family or friends and social activities.

The collection consists of writings, sermons, sermon notes, family photographs, photographic negatives and glass lantern slides of Europe and the Holy Lands, a scrapbook of clippings, photographs, and programs pertaining to Williams, a book of accounts Williams kept while a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and correspondence. The correspondence pertains to Williams' activities while at Oxford, his rectorship at St. Stephens Church (Milledgeville, Ga.), and his teaching career at the University of the South (Sewanee, Tenn.). Correspondents include University of Georgia Chancellor D.C. Barrow, the Bishop of Atlanta Cleland Kinloch Nelson, and Williams' father, Howard J. Williams. The collection also contains correspondence to Eleanor (Nellie) Barrow Williams from friends and family, letters of condolence upon her father's death, and memorials to Henry Lee Jewett Williams.

The bulk of the collection (1936-1949) concerns the publication of Gone with the Wind (GWTW), the effect of its publication, and the production of the motion picture by Selznick International Pictures.

The Stovall and McKay Family Papers document Walter Louis and Alice Woodliff Stovall, and their children: Walter Louis, Jr., James Edwin, Mary Katherine, Sarah Elizabeth, Martha Woodliff, and George Woodliff. The majority of the collection is correspondence between the three girls and their parents and document their daily lives. Also, there are letters between George and his wife, Martha McKay, during his service in the Air Corps during World War II. A small amount of correspondence from George and Martha's son, Walter L. Stovall III and his wife Charlayne Hunter (Gault) discuss their controversial biracial marriage and the birth of their daughter. The McKay papers belonged to Martha McKay and her brother Wright Judson McKay. The majority of her files are related to the Sub-Debs, a women's civic club, established in 1934. There is also scrapbook about J. E. Mathis, McKay's maternal grandfather.
